Phase II ground breaking set for July

Above-ground construction on Phase II of Kahle Community Center is scheduled for the beginning of July, according to Park and Recreation Director Scott Morgan.

“We had to work very hard to pull this whole project together, all through the bonding procedure and the negotiations,” Morgan said. “Our one last shot was to get a rest-room facility.”

A bid by American General Development of Carson City was approved Thursday by Douglas County Commissioners.

“We have not signed the contract yet, we anticipate that will happen this week,” Morgan said. “We’re hoping to start on an accelerated construction schedule this July. If we have good weather conditions, we could be up and running in approximately one year.”

The $2,167,406 gymnasium addition will be funded by a 1998 Room Tax bond. A larger than anticipated balance within the Room Tax Fund, according to Morgan, will also cover construction of the $242,635 rest room.
