Photo contest deadline nears
Every year around this time a magazine published by the California Department of Fish and Game asks photographers throughout the state for their best fish, wildlife and plant photos.
The magazine, Outdoor California, has a panel of photographers and biologists that judge the work and one photo is published as the photograph of the year.
Submissions must be made on a 35 mm slide by noon on Dec. 31 and should not include people or structures. The photographs must be of native, live California species in their native habitat.
Nine categories include: birds, mammals, fish, aquatic invertebrates, terrestrial invertebrates, plants, natural environment, wildlife in action, and open, which involves digitally enhanced or manipulated images.
To obtain an entry form for the contest, call (916) 653-6420 or write the Office of Communications at 1416 Ninth Street, Room 117, Sacramento, CA 95814 or go to http://www.dfg.ca.gov/news/.
