Police advise of sex offender Web sites

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department wants to advise residents of a discrepancy between California sexual offenders listed on the Department of Justice’s Web site and the California attorney general’s Web site.

Lt. Martin Hewlett said there are six serious offenders not listed on the public-accessible Megan’s Law portion of the attorney general’s Web site, found at http://www.meganslaw.ca.gov/.

Thirty-five registrants are listed. Hewlett said if people have a concern about somebody not listed on the public-accessible Web site, they make an appointment with the police department to view information from the Department of Justice.

The police department’s number is (530) 542-6100.
