The South Lake Tahoe Police Department’s Explorer Post recently traveled to Tracy, Calif., to participate in the 2012 Central Valley Explorer Competition.

The team, which consisted of Joey Acker, Daniel Loyola, Allison Roberts and Hector Vasquez and their adviser, police officer Rebecca Inman, made the trip July 13-15.

The competition gathered explorers from all over California, according to a press release from the city of South Lake Tahoe. There were 28 different explorer posts of varying sizes and about 300 young men and women participated in 14 different team and individual events. The events varied from conducting a traffic stop to rescuing people taken hostage on a bus.

The South Lake Tahoe team earned first-place medals and trophies in Traffic Stop, Vehicle Search, Burglary in Progress, Hostage Negotiation and interacting/assisting a mentally disturbed person. It also took a second-place medal and trophy in the Obstacle Course and third-place medals and trophies in the Bus Assault, High Risk Stop and Crime Scene Investigation.

Due to its performance, the group also took home the coveted Chief’s Award Trophy, denoting them as the top team at the competition.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Explorers are a group of young men and women between the ages of 14-21 who have an interest in pursuing law enforcement as a career.

Anyone interested in the police explorers can contact Inman at 530-542-6100.
