Police release additional photos in suspected Bijou arson
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – South Lake Tahoe police have released additional surveillance photos of two men suspected of running from a possible arson at the Bijou Center last week.
After receiving a report of a fire near La Promesa Bakery and Restaurant about 3:45 a.m. Aug. 25, police and firefighters “discovered a trash can on the outside of the business complex engulfed in flames and saw the overhang of the building starting to catch fire,” said Detective Doug Sentell in a Friday statement. “A fire sprinkler system on the exterior of the building helped control the fire from spreading until the fire department was able to extinguish it completely.”
Police and fire investigators believe the fire was deliberately set.
The latest surveillance photos show the men earlier in the night at a performance by hip-hop artist Atmosphere at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa.
One of the men is wearing wearing a black hat with a white logo and a black shirt with a red star on it, Sentell said in an email.
The second man is wearing a backwards tan hat and a black T-shirt with a drawing of a marijuana leaf on the front and a larger marijuana leaf on the back of the shirt tail. The wording across the top front of the shirt appears to say “West Side,” Sentell said.
Police ask anyone who recognizes the men in the photos or has information on the incident to call Sentell at 530-542-6100 or Secret Witness at 530-541-6800.
