Authorities were still investigating a robbery at El Dorado Savings Bank on Al Tahoe Boulevard last week while releasing a photograph of the suspect taken by a surveillance camera.

The robbery occurred Friday at 5:32 p.m. when a man entered the bank, told a teller he was armed and demanded cash, authorities said. He left on foot with the money in a brown paper bag.

He was spotted near the main branch of the post office but was not seen afterward.

South Lake Tahoe police Lt. Martin Hewlett said the man might have previous experience in robbing banks.

“We’re carefully looking at him being involved in other robberies in the Northern California area,” Hewlett said.

The man was described as possibly Hispanic, heavyset, 35 to 40 years old and having a thick mustache. He wore a white baseball cap, dark sunglasses, a dark sweatshirt with a white collar and white elbow pads, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to contact Detective Mark Tappen at (530) 542-6134 or Secret Witness at (530) 541-6800.
