Everyone is invited to attend the South Lake Tahoe Senior Citizens Potluck with Entertainment at 5:30 p.m. Friday and enjoy a very informative slide show by Dr. David Borges. At about 6:30 p.m., Borges will present a show titled “The Silver State and the Civil War – and How Tahoe Was Involved” using a Power Point program, which makes it animated and interesting. The event takes place at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Borges starts the program with an overview of the pre-Civil War issues and then gives some political reasons why Nevada became a state. He will also show evidence from federal documentation that the state does not divide Tahoe. The program is given mostly to have fun and learn some history.

Borges has been a chiropractic doctor in the Tahoe area since 1985. He moved with his family to Lake Tahoe in 1965 at age 1, and for the past 15 years has been giving lectures to local service organizations and elementary and high schools on Tahoe history.

People who are coming to the potluck should bring their own plate and utensils as well as a favorite food dish for six to eight people. Members of Senior Citizens Inc. attending the potluck can win a $25 door prize. Guests are welcome and everyone can win cash raffle prizes.
