Potluck speaker to discuss preparing for emergencies

Provided to the Tribune

Everyone is invited to a potluck and to hear a speaker, Steve Mahnken, from the El Dorado County Health Department, on “Getting Prepared for Emergencies and/or Disasters,” on Friday.

The potluck will start at 5:30 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Those attending are asked to bring their own plate, utensils and a dish for six people.

Mahnken is scheduled to speak at 6:30 p.m. There will also be a cash raffle.

As the mainstream media maintains, an emergency could endanger an entire community, regardless of its size, at any time.

It is good to know what provisions to have on hand, as well as a plan on what to do, in case of an emergency.

Following the speaker, there will be a brief meeting and nominations for officers and other board members from current members of South Lake Tahoe Senior Citizens Inc.

There will also be nomination forms at the meeting. Board nominations can also be made by calling Rolf Bonsack at (530) 541-5777 by Oct. 10.

Voting will be by a ballot attached to the November newsletter with a deadline for ballots by mail or in person to be received at the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center by Nov. 15.

For details, call Arline at (775) 588-6997 or the center on weekdays at (530) 542-6094.
