Power bills late

Some South Lake Tahoe residents might be wondering where their power bill is this month. According to Sierra Pacific, the first few billing cycles for California customers were mailed late due to a software problem.

“We converted to a new billing system in California because of power deregulation,” said Karl Walquist, spokesman for the power company. “We ran some tests to see if everything was working properly and during the tests we found some problems in the software. Those problems had to be corrected before the bills could be run.”

Sierra Pacific serves about 44,000 customers in California. The majority reside in Lake Tahoe. Walquist explained that starting in January customers will see a more detailed bill.

“Charges that were normally lumped together have been separated,” he said. “There will be more detail on the different costs for your electric service.”

Walquist said customers who get their bills late don’t need to worry about late charges, and shouldn’t be alarmed by the due date.

“The company will not be charging late charges and there will no reflection on their credit reports,” Walquist said. “The bills are now correct and the current billing cycles will go out on time.”

Anyone with questions about their bill should call the South Lake Tahoe office at (530) 541-2040.
