Power knocked out near Sawmill Pond

A crane doing construction work crashed into a power line at about 12:05 this afternoon, knocking out power to customers near the Sawmill Pond area in South Lake Tahoe.

It is unknown how many customers are without power. Work crews are at the scene now, near the intersection of Lake Tahoe Boulevard and View Circle where the construction accident occured, said Karl Walquist, spokesman for Sierra Pacific Power.

The California Highway Patrol is rerouting traffic in the area.
