Presumed drowning victim’s name not released

South Lake Tahoe Police said Monday they could not release the name of a 24-year-old man they presume drowned in Lake Tahoe on Saturday because his family has not yet been notified.

Sgt. Cameron Carmichael said the family is not in the country and a family friend is trying to get in touch with them.

The Roseville man went missing Saturday around 4 p.m. after falling off a water toy being pulled by a boat.

A four-hour search for the man by multiple agencies brought no results, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. The search was called off because air and water temperatures indicated someone could not survive that long in the water, according to the U.S. Coast Guard.

Divers could not continue the search because the presumed drowning took place in water 700 feet deep, an unsafe depth for diving.

Private boats, including casino and commercial fishing vessels, also responded to the search call.
