Purcey, 51s blank Aces in series finale

LAS VEGAS – The Aces were held to just three hits Sunday night, as the Las Vegas 51s cruised to a 9-0 victory in the series finale at Cashman Field, resulting in a tie of the inaugural Silver State Diamond Challenge.

Las Vegas starter David Purcey (8-6) tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits and no walks. The left-hander retired the last 21 batters in order.

The loss fell to Reno starter Cesar Valdez (6-6), who surrendered five runs on eight hits over three innings pitched. Valdez struck out two and didn’t issue a walk. Abe Woody allowed four runs over three innings of work before Jason Urquidez worked two scoreless frames.

Cole Gillespie, Chris Roberson and Konrad Schmidt each singled for Reno, accounting for all of the Aces offense.

The Aces now head back to Reno for the final homestand of the 2009 season. First up is a four-game set with the Pacific Southern Division champion Sacramento River Cats, beginning Monday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
