Quartet not your typical ‘Garaj’ band

Up-and-coming jam band Garaj Mahal plays at the Ta

Garaj Mahal considers itself the answer to a question: What do you get when you combine four first-class musicians with resumes that include accompanying Sting, Steve Kimock, John McLaughlin, Bela Fleck and Chick Corea?

Kai Eckhardt (bass), Fareed Haque (guitars), Alan Hertz (drums) and Eric Levy (keys) first came together in 2000 as a super jam session. The foursome pushes the envelope of composition and improvisation, blending funk, jazz, fusion and blues with a world music flair.

Garaj Mahal has shared the stage with the likes of Trey Anastasio, Michael Kang and the String Cheese Incident, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Les Claypool’s Frog Brigade, Robert Walter’s 20th Congress, Umphrey’s McGee, Medeski, Martin and Wood, and many others. Garaj Mahal was also Jammy award nominee in 2003.

Garaj Mahal plays Club Breeze in the Tahoe Biltmore at 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. Tickets are $15 in advance at the venue as well as Mad About Music or online at tickets.com, jambasetickets.com and http://www.renegadeshows.com.
