Quinn ready for fifth title, competion from Rhoden

By Paul Andrew

STATELINE – Four-time ACC Celebrity Championship winner Dan Quinn is happy that six-time champion Rick Rhoden is back in the field as his chief nemesis in this year’s tournament.

“I love the competition, and am glad he’s here,” Quinn said. “We don’t get a lot of chances to play really competitive golf.”

Rhoden, who missed the cut at the U.S. Senior Open last weekend by three strokes, was on the course at Edgewood early Monday morning in preparation for this week’s event.

“Playing in that level of competition has to help,” Quinn added, regarding Rhoden’s experience on the Champions (Senior) Tour.

When asked about joining that tour when he is eligible, Quinn wasn’t definite, but is strongly considering it.

“I heard they are extending the contract on this (ACC) tournament,” the 42-year-old Quinn said. “That will get me about to the age, (50), when I am eligible.”

With the success and drive that Quinn has shown during his years playing on the Celebrity Tour, don’t be surprised to see him hoist his fifth championship trophy on Sunday afternoon.
