Coming to South Shore this weekend is a band that defies classification: Railroad Earth.
While the group’s first gig took place at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, Railroad Earth prefers to skirt labels when defining its sound.
“We use unique acoustic instrumentation, but we’re definitely not a bluegrass or country band, which sometimes leaves music writers confused as to how to categorize us. We’re essentially playing rock on acoustic instruments,” said band member Tim Carbone.
“I always describe it as a string band, but an amplified string band with drums,” said mandolin player and vocalist John Skehan.
“We’re a country and Eastern band!” added frontman Todd Sheaffer.
Railroad Earth is known for its multiple critically acclaimed studio albums, including 2017’s “Captain Nowhere,” and the live album “Elko,” which features the hits “Mighty River” and “Long Way to Go.”
And the live shows are often marked by impressive improvisations.
Don’t miss your chance to catch the band at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa in Stateline on Friday, Jan. 19, at 7 p.m.
Tickets are available through the venue’s website for $27 in advance and $30 on the day of the show.
Guests must be at least 21 years of age in order to attend.
MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa is located at 55 U.S. 50.
