Rain to continue Monday, minor flooding possible

Staff Reports

LAKE TAHOE – Welcome to early June at Lake Tahoe.

A rain/snow mix will continue through Monday for the region, according to the National Weather Service in Reno, bringing with it cold temperatures and the chance of flooding.

Snow will continue to produce slushy and snow-covered roads above 7,000 feet, NWS reports, with accumulations of up to 2 inches possible. An additional half-inch of rain is expected Monday across Western Nevada.

Flows on several creeks in the Lake Tahoe Basin and far Western Nevada have increased rapidly overnight, NWS reports, and minor flooding in poorly drained urban areas and near creeks and steams is possible through Monday morning.

In the valleys, flood danger is more likely, as as much as 1 to 1.5 inches of rain is expected Monday since Sunday evening; a flood advisory is in effect until 10:30 a.m. Monday between Sparks and Fernley and portions of Southern Washoe County including the Palomino Valley.
