Rains dampen Tahoe, Reid’s Whittell Estate announcement

RENO (AP) – Rain has washed out Sen. Harry Reid’s plans to visit the historic Thunderbird Lodge at Lake Tahoe and to make a tour of the Tahoe Basin.

Reid was expected to announce the latest details of the agreement between the U.S. Forest Service, the University of Nevada, Reno and Del Webb Conservation Holding Company that makes the 147-acre parcel public property.

But scattered showers and the threat of heavier rain later in the day forced him to postpone the event.

He’ll be appearing at the lake today along with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., Rep. Jim Gibbons, R-Nev., California Gov. Gray Davis and Nevada Gov. Kenny Guinn to conduct a workshop on progress in the efforts to preserve the lake and could make the announcement at that time.
