Raymond E. Hansen

Raymond E. Hansen passed away peacefully Oct. 25, 2005, while recovering from hip surgery and a stroke in a nursing home in Elk Grove, Calif., where he last resided.

Raymond was born Sept. 8, 1917, in Coleridge, Neb., to Mary and John Hansen. He was a 20-year resident of South Lake Tahoe and retired in 1989 from Harveys after 19 years of employment. Prior to South Lake Tahoe he resided with his wife, Viola, and family in Santa Clara, Calif. He was very active in his parish, St. Lawrence the Martyr Catholic Church, as well as at St. Theresa. He was a Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus and a usher for the church. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity and love of cooking holiday meals for family and friends. His recipes have become a family tradition. He was a veteran of World War II and was buried with honors.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Viola Hansen; sons, Barry Hansen and Bradley Hansen; daughters, Susan Ishii and Cynthia Gibson; grandchildren, Jon Galvan, Joey Galvan, Jenifer Eckert and Timothy Sprinkles; great-grandchildren, Cori Galvan, Christian Sanchez and Tanner Galvan; sisters, Elaine Imboden, Mary Cosenza, Louise Seely and Irene Ambrose; and brother, Al Hansen.

Funeral services took place Oct. 27 in Elk Grove. A Catholic Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and burial services were at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
