Reading program hits road

“Reading Road Trip, U.S.A. is the theme for the summer reading program sponsored by the Lake Tahoe Branch, Douglas County Public Library.

The program is for all ages and runs from June 16 through Aug. 25. There also will be a read-to-me program for preschoolers, whose older siblings can get credit for reading to them. Prizes and weekly drawings for T-shirts, books, restaurant coupons and more will provide incentives to readers.

Teen-agers in grades 6 to 12 can win prizes by participating in the Teen Summer Reading Program June 15 to Aug. 15. Participants fill out a reading ticket for every book read and each ticket increases the chance of winning a great prize donated by local businesses.

The special event for the summer will be an original puppet show, “Are We There Yet?” by Chris Bayer and his Coyote Puppet Theater. The show is scheduled July 12 at 1:30 p.m. and is sponsored by the Tahoe-Douglas Library League. Admission is free.

Other special events this month will be “Good Driving, Amelia Bedelia,” performed by Carol Rapacz, community proram coordinator, on June 21 and Fourth of July crafts and activities on June 28.

Storytime is offered all summer at 11 a.m. on Thursdays for children ages 3 and up. Storytime is 45 minutes of stories, poems and activities related to the day’s theme.

All programs are at the Lake Tahoe Branch Library on Warrior Way at Zephyr Cove. For information, call (775) 588-6411.
