Rec Center roof construction money allocated
Construction on a new roof the South Lake Tahoe Parks and Recreation Center will begin next week.
Tuesday the city council allocated $77,000 toward the new roof.
Gudgel/Yancy Roofing, Inc., of Sacramento will begin construction Sept. 8. The project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the month, just two weeks before the end of construction season.
City Manager Kerry Miller said the new roof could have waited until next year, but the city’s engineering staff was concerned about water damage to the building should this winter spawn above average snowfall.
Most of the funding for the roof will come from the Parks and Recreation Capital Improvements Project fund for the 1997-98 fiscal year. A small portion of the money will come from capital outlay funds for buildings.
