Recycle trees this week

Provided to the Tribune

All South Lake Tahoe residents will be able to recycle their holiday trees today through Friday and Jan. 7 through 11.

According to Ginger Huber of El Dorado County Environmental Management, residents should put their holiday trees, stripped of all decorations and stands, next to their garbage can and out of the road right-of-way on their regular pick-up day Monday through Jan. 4 and Jan. 7 through 11. South Tahoe Refuse trucks will collect the trees. Trees greater than 6 feet tall should be broken into smaller pieces to fit into the collection trucks.

The trees will be recycled into new soil at composting facilities in the Carson Valley. All residents in the South Lake Tahoe service area are invited to participate.

Nevada residents may place their trees out for pick-up or drop them off at Kahle and Zephyr Cove parks.

Craig Burnside of Douglas County Parks and Recreation, said all trees must have tinsel, decorations and nails removed before collection.

After the special collection week, South Tahoe Refuse will continue to recycle trees through its Material Recovery Facility.
