Recycling: From a Christmas tree to wood chips
While most Christmas trees are put outside for pickup after New Year’s Day, there are some tips to effectively give the decoration a second life as wood chips.
Officials with South Tahoe Refuse Company advised people to remove all decorations from trees – such as the pesky tinsel – and take out any nails used in wooden stands.
Bob Rockwell, route manager for the refuse company, said bare trees can be placed with regular trash loads on normal pickup days. The trees are turned into wood chips that are spread across parks or used for erosion control.
