Red flag warning issued for Saturday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Weather conditions are expected to make the Lake Tahoe area especially susceptible to wildfire on Saturday, according to a red flag warning issued by the National Weather Service in Reno on Friday.

“Gusty winds will combine with a very dry airmass and create critical fire weather conditions,” according to the warning.

Sustained winds are expected to reach 20 mph, with gusts up to 40 mph, according to a separate Lake Wind Advisory from the weather service.

The advisory predicts waves up to 4 foot waves along the east and northeast shores of Lake Tahoe and advises small boats to remain off the water until conditions improve.

The red flag warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Saturday.

The warning is in effect for the area surrounding Lake Tahoe, northeastern California and all but the southern tip of Nevada.

Red Flag warnings have also been issued for southeastern Oregon, parts of Idaho and much of western Montana, according to the weather service.
