RedHawks strike early to down Aces

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Jeff Bailey put Reno on the board with a solo homer in the fourth, but seven early RedHawk runs were enough to push Oklahoma City to a 10-4 win over the Aces in the series opener Tuesday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark.

The RedHawks raked Aces’ starter Cesar Valdez for five runs in the first inning and never looked back. Oklahoma City added a run in the second, another in the third and two more in the fourth to build a lead that was never seriously threatened. Reno pushed across three runs in the eighth, but the effort fell short, snapping a four-game winning streak.

Valdez (4-9) was pinned with the loss, surrendering nine earned runs over four innings of work. Four Aces’ relievers combined to hold the RedHawks to just one run and no hits over the next four frames.

The win went to Oklahoma City reliever Michael Kirkman (13-3), who allowed just a run over four frames.

At the dish for Reno, Bailey homered and doubled, finishing with three runs batted in. Doug Deeds, Ed Rogers and Mark Hallberg chipped in two hits apiece.

The Aces and RedHawks meet again on Wednesday night from AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. RHP Kevin Mulvey (6-8, 4.85 ERA) will start for Reno. RHP Guillermo Moscoso (7-5, 5.26) counters for the RedHawks. First pitch is set for 5:05 p.m.
