El Dorado County opens waiting list for rental assistance program for first time in 8 years
For the first time since 2008, El Dorado County’s Public Housing Authority will open its Housing Choice Voucher Waiting List.
The program, funded by the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, provides rental assistance to income qualified individuals and families.
The tenant pays approximately 30 percent of their income in rent to the landlord, and the Housing Authority pays the rest, up to a certain limit.
Eligibility is determined by family size and income.
Applications for the program will only be accepted online starting Monday, Oct. 17, at 9 a.m. through Sunday, Oct. 23 at 11:59 p.m. through the El Dorado County website, http://www.edcgov.us.
Applicants must be citizens of the United States or have eligible immigration status.
A computer generated lottery will review and select the 500 applications that will make up the waiting list. Race, religion, national origin, sex, marital status, and disability are not factored into the selection process.
For more information, contact the County of El Dorado Housing Authority at 530-621-6300.
