Relay for Life on Saturday
August 6, 2009
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – The South Lake Tahoe’s Relay For Life is ready to hit the ground running – or walking – to celebrate those who’ve beaten cancer, remember those we’ve lost to cancer and rally against this disease that takes too much.
The all-night festivity begins at 4 p.m. Saturday at Kahle Community Park. Live music, including Lavish Green, karaoke, fire dancers, a dunk tank donated by the Children’s Museum of Carson City, food, games and fundraisers will continue throughout the night.
The pre-party is at 7 p.m. Friday at the Fox and Hound with food, drinks and live music from Deep Fyed Mojo. Erik Watada State Farm Agency team arranged for 10 percent of all sales during the pre-party to be donated to Relay For Life.
The committee has reached its goal of 40 registered teams and hopes to surpass it by raising more than $100,000 in the fight against cancer. Donations are collected on site with all types of fundraisers.
This year marks the 25th anniversary for Relay for Life events, and South Tahoe is celebrating its fourth annual event. The all-night event will conclude around 7 a.m. on Sunday. Teams take turns walking around the track throughout the event to symbolize that cancer never sleeps. A Canine For a Cure Dog Walk and Luminaria ceremony will be held to remember those who we’ve lost to cancer and more are part of the event.
