Religion events

Tahoe Family Encampment will host its fifth annual meeting Saturday through July 30 at Camp Richardson Resort. Kick-off services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday under the Eagle’s Nest Circus Tent.

The thought-provoking and spiritually reassuring theme of Return to Eden should remind everyone of God’s perfect creation, Adam and Eve, and how He gave them the best of the best for their use and enjoyment. Daily classes for all ages will be at 8, 9:30 and 11 a.m. with a 6 p.m. “revival style” on Saturday.

For more information, come to the Saturday opening service. The encampment will provide an opportunity for Christian fellowship and Bible study.

Forum on church, state

A community forum on religion and government will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday at the Lake Tahoe Community College theater. It will begin with the showing of the recent PBS Frontline documentary “The Jesus Factor.”

The program runs about 55 minutes and describes President George W. Bush’s religious faith, how he came to embrace it, and how it has shaped his presidency. Following the documentary, an open discussion facilitated by Steve Goldman will address the following questions:

l. What did the Founding Fathers intend by including the principle of “separation of church and state” in the U.S. Constitution?

2. What does “separation of church and state” mean today?

3. Under what conditions, if any, is it OK for a political leader to advocate religious teachings?

4. Under what conditions, if any, is it appropriate to base political decisions on the will of God?

5. If Jesus were alive today, what would He advise us to do to create peace in the world?

6. What is the role of churches to promote peace?
