Reno Aces shut out Portland

PORTLAND, Ore.- Yusmeiro Petit and Cesar Valdez combined on a six-hit shutout Monday night, lifting the Reno Aces to a 3-0 victory over the Portland Beavers at PGE Park.

Petit, making a Major League rehab start, allowed just a hit before giving way to Valdez (4-4), who tossed seven scoreless frames to close out the ballgame. The victory marked Reno’s fourth shutout effort of the season, and second with Valdez on the hill.

The Aces jumped on the board in the first, using an RBI single by Rusty Ryal and a bases-loaded walk by Chris Roberson to take a quick 2-0. Reno added an insurance run in the fifth, capitalizing on a Portland error to push the score to 3-0. That margin would be plenty, thanks to a dominant pitching effort for Valdez.

The loss fell to Portland starter Rolando Valdez (0-1), who worked just one inning in a spot start. Valdez allowed two runs on two hits with three walks, all over the course of the first inning.
