Reno Bighorns release 2010-11 schedule

RENO – The Reno Bighorns, NBA Development League affiliate of the Sacramento Kings and Golden State Warriors, open the 2010-11 season on Saturday, Nov. 20 in the Reno Events Center, kicking off a five-game season-opening homestand, the league office announced Monday.

Reno’s third season of NBA D-League basketball begins in earnest on Nov. 20, with a Saturday-Sunday series against the Utah Flash, NBA D-League affiliate of the Utah Jazz and Atlanta Hawks. A Friday-Saturday set against the Bakersfield Jam, affiliate of the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, is scheduled for Nov. 26 and 27, and the ‘Horns complete the five-game homestand against the Idaho Stampede, affiliate of the Denver Nuggets and Portland Trail Blazers, on Wednesday, Dec. 1.

The release of the 2010-11 schedule officially tips off an exciting build-up to opening night in the Reno Events Center. This Thursday, the Reno Bighorns franchise will make a major announcement at a 10:30 a.m. press gathering in the Freight House District.

In all, the Bighorns’ 50-game slate includes 24 contests inside the Reno Events Center. Reno will also take part in the 2011 NBA D-League Showcase, which will take place from Jan. 10-13 at The South Padre Island Convention Center in South Padre Island, Texas.

Other highlights on the 2010-11 schedule include a Dec. 10-11 set against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, who knocked the Bighorns out of the playoffs last April. The expansion Texas Legends, coached by Hall of Famer Nancy Lieberman, make their first visit to the Biggest Little City in the World on Jan. 15-16.

Also highlighting the 2010-11 NBA D-League schedule is the fifth annual NBA D-League All-Star Game and the Dream Factory skills competition, which will take place as part of NBA Jam Session presented by adidas at NBA All-Star 2011 in Los Angeles.

For the second consecutive year, the NBA D-League will feature two conferences, East and West, with the Texas Legends replacing the Los Angeles D-Fenders in the Western Conference. The Eastern Conference will consist of the Dakota Wizards, Erie BayHawks, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Iowa Energy, Maine Red Claws, Sioux Falls Skyforce and Springfield Armor, while the Western Conference includes the Austin Toros, Bakersfield Jam, Idaho Stampede, New Mexico Thunderbirds, Reno Bighorns, Rio Grande Valley Vipers, Texas Legends, Tulsa 66ers and Utah Flash.
