Reno, Lake Tahoe to host Chinese beauty pageant
CARSON CITY (AP) – Northern Nevada is hosting 18 semi-finalists from a Chinese beauty pageant in a televised tour and competition officials hope will bring international exposure to the state.
Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki said Monday that the Miss Chinese Cosmos Semi-Finals will take place in Reno and Lake Tahoe Sept. 23-30. The winner becomes China’s representative to the Miss Universe pageant.
The contest moves around the world and was in Sydney, Australia last year. This is the first time the pageant has been held in the United States.
Contestants will tour the National Automobile Museum, the state Capitol and the Nevada State Museum. They will also take a cruise on the M.S. Dixie II and see a Wild-West shoot-out in Virginia City.
More than 10 million viewers are expected to watch the pageant.
