Despite two wins in the preliminary round, the South Tahoe 11-12 All-Stars couldn’t avoid the top seed in the Nevada District 1 Little League quarterfinals on Saturday in Gardnerville.

Reno National eliminated South Tahoe 13-2 in four innings at Aspen Park to advance to Sunday’s semifinals.

“We played a good game, but they were a better team,” said South Tahoe manager Dan Miller. “It was a lot closer than it was with Washoe. We played good but just came up short.”

South Tahoe started Sergio Burgueno on the mound. Burgueno was the winning pitcher when South Tahoe defeated Reno American West last Monday.

South Tahoe, which finished 2-3 in the week-long tournament, lost a tiebreaker to Sparks, which also won two games, for the No. 3 seed going into the quarterfinals.

“I was really happy with our team,” Miller said. “We won two games and made the quarterfinals. As long as we aren’t giving away games. If we lose to a better team, we lose.”
