Herbie Hancock is “a true icon of modern music,” according to his online biography. And most who’ve seen him perform would agree.

At age 11 the musician performed a Mozart piano concerto with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra before starting to play jazz in high school.

Throughout the years, his unique voice has transcended classification: Hancock has notched 14 Grammy Awards over the course of his career, which spans five decades.

“There are few artists in the music industry who have had more influence on acoustic and electronic jazz and R&B than Herbie Hancock. As the immortal Miles Davis said in his autobiography, ‘Herbie was the step after Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk, and I haven’t heard anybody yet who has come after him,’” states the musician’s online biography.

On Saturday, Aug. 19, Hancock takes the stage at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa for a South Shore gig that music lovers of all ages will not want to miss.

“Now in the fifth decade of his professional life, Herbie Hancock remains where he has always been: In the forefront of world culture, technology, business and music.

“Though one can’t track exactly where he will go next, he is sure to leave his inimitable imprint wherever he lands,” concludes the bio.

Hancock’s performance begins at 8 p.m., and ticket prices range from $50-$70 (plus tax and fees).
