Retreats aim to help teenage girls transition at school

Live Violence Free will host two Girls’ Empowerment Retreats this summer.

The overnght retreats are designed for girls entering sixth grade or ninth grade in the fall. They aim to instill girls with knowledge and self-esteem as they transition into new stages of life. Girls are often left to transition into their teenage years without the necessary tools such as self-esteem building and the understanding that they can achieve their dreams, a press release from Live Violence Free stated. Through the retreat, Live Violence Free hopes to provide nurturing role models to help girls achieve a sense of self-worth. Retreat activities will include workshops that discuss leadership, self-defense, arts and crafts, self-care and working with animals.

The retreat is sponsored by Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe.

The retreat for girls entering ninth grade will begin June 22 at 3 p.m. at Nevada State 4-H Camp, and the retreat for girls entering sixth grade will begin Aug. 15 at 3 p.m. at the camp. Each event costs $25 per person. Scholarships are available. Space is limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis.
