Memorial services will take place Saturday for Richard “Rich” Joel Cervantes, who died Feb. 13, 2005, at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nev., following a snowboarding accident on Feb. 7 at Sierra-at-Tahoe. He was 28.

Rich was born June 19, 1976, in Philadelphia, Pa., and grew up in Santa Cruz, Calif. He graduated from San Lorenzo Valley High School in 1994, and attended Cabrillo College in Aptos, Calif., and Lake Tahoe Community College. He was a nine-year resident of South Lake Tahoe and had been employed as a chef and in the roofing business. He enjoyed snowsports and water sports, especially surfing, as well as skateboarding and fly fishing. He loved spending time with his dog, Arrow, who was his faithful friend.

He is survived by his father, Ricardo Cervantes, his mother, Rebeca Cervantes, and his sister, Romina Cervantes, all of Santa Cruz, as well as his dog, Arrow, and many close friends. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all.



Memorial services will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter and St. Paul Orthodox Church, 9980 Highway 9, Ben Lomond, CA. A celebration of life is planned June 19 at Kiva Beach, South Lake Tahoe.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations in Rich’s memory be made to the Richard Cervantes Memorial Fund, Coast Commercial Bank, 1850 41st Ave., Capitola, CA 95010.
