Ritz closing for spring cleaning

TRUCKEE – The Ritz-Carlton will shut down operations the day after skiing stops at nearby Northstar to prepare for the late spring and summer seasons.

The Ritz-Carlton Highlands at Lake Tahoe, mid-mountain at Northstar-at-Tahoe, is scheduled to close April 19, reopening May 10, giving staff three weeks to prepare for the summer season.

“It’s common for ski resort hotels and has been part of the plan from the beginning,” said Steven Holt, director of public relations. “The ski industry is very hard on the building itself so we’ll be refinishing the floors, deep cleaning, spring cleaning.”

While Holt said the practice is common at resort hotels in places like Colorado, whether the Ritz-Carlton Highlands will do it every year is still undecided.

The closure is part of the hotel employee’s seasonal employment, Holt said, so while maintenance staff will be working through the closure, others will not.
