Road construction continues in Incline

INCLINE VILLAGE – Construction crews from Granite Construction started replacement of State Route 28 between the Ponderosa Ranch and the state line.

This week may mark the end of what has been two weeks of fits and starts for drivers in Incline town limits who will now be treated to a quieter, smoother ride.

Crews removed three inches of existing pavement before they laid down the new roadway.

“We’re (did) all we could to minimize noise,” said Nevada Department of Transportation spokesperson Scott Magruder. “Grinding and paving are noisy operations, but the good news it’s a moving project. We (weren’t) in one place for very long.”

Magruder said crews can’t work during the day because the project would take all summer long and traffic would be backed up for miles through the village.

“We’re limiting backing up of heavy equipment, which make a loud beeping noise,” he said. “And we’re not going to be jack hammering or grinding in one place for more than a couple of days.”

Construction crews are only authorized to work from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. and should finish the repaving project by June 29, after which they will be fined $5,000 per day until completed.

Once State Route 28 is finished, Magruder said crews will move onto the Mount Rose Highway to complete the $10.3 million North Shore repaving project.
