Road construction on Highway 50 through South Lake Tahoe will start in the middle of May, said Caltrans spokeswoman Deanna Shoopman. An exact date has yet to be announced by the contractor, she said.

The work is part of the $27 million 3-year Ski Run Boulevard to Trout Creek Project, which started last year. The project includes new storm drains, stop lights and sidewalks among other improvements along the 3-mile stretch.

Crews will begin near Fremont Avenue and work east towards Ski Run Boulevard, Shoopman said. Traffic delays are expected.
