Robbery suspect arrested

It looks like an inside job in which a robber relied on the help of his girlfriend.

Investigators on Thursday arrested 19-year-old Santos Ayon Nunez Jr. on suspicion he committed armed robbery at Camp Richardson Resort Hotel.

Initial reports indicated a robber walked into the hotel Tuesday at 7:18 a.m., grabbed the hair of a female employee, stuck a pistol in her face and stole $900 from a safe.

But now investigators say the employee, Tara Marquez, 21, of South Lake Tahoe, may have been in cahoots with the robber. Marquez told investigators the crime did not happen as she first reported it. She also named her boyfriend, Nunez, as a suspect.

The District Attorney’s Office will determine if Marquez will face charges for filing a false police report or for involvement in the robbery, said El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department investigators.

Nunez was handcuffed Thursday morning at a South Lake Tahoe residence after a tip led to his arrest. Sgt. Bob Johnston said a break in the case came when someone called and told investigators a man was bragging about the robbery.
