Robbery suspect ID’d

The man suspected of robbing the Wells Fargo bank in the Round Hill Safeway was identified as Johnathon David, 44, of Stateline.

A man entered the Round Hill Safeway May 15 and gave a note to a Wells Fargo teller asking for money. The note indicated the man was armed and not alone. It is unclear if the robber was armed or if he had any accomplices, police said.

A witness allegedly saw David leaving Safeway and followed him. The witness told police David was traveling west on U.S. Highway 50. When David saw Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies pursuing him, he led them on a high-speed chase that ended on Pine Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. David was arrested without incident.

David was transported to the El Dorado County Jail by South Lake Tahoe police and is awaiting extradition to Nevada.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has taken jurisdiction over the case and their investigation is pending.
