Blues rock icon Robert Cray is celebrating four decades of live performances this year. He’ll bring one of his signature live shows to Harrah’s Lake Tahoe’s South Shore Room this Saturday.

Cray has recorded 16 studio albums that have reached the Billboard charts and was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011. He’ll release “4 Nights Of 40 Years Live,” a double-CD and video collection, on Aug. 28.

“Both the DVD and Blu-ray contain 90 minutes of concert footage, interviews and testimonials from legends as Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Keith Richards, Jimmie Vaughan and Bonnie Raitt,” according to a description of the release, which celebrates 40 years of live performances.

“As ever with Robert Cray’s undefinable sound, his music remains stubbornly beyond category,” according to his online biography. “Although blues is the foundation, his music is a melting pot of traditional American rock, soul, jazz, gospel, funk and R&B. ‘When I first started playing guitar, I wanted to be George Harrison – that is, until I heard Jimi Hendrix. After that, I wanted to be Albert Collins and Buddy Guy and B.B. King. And then there are singers like O.V. Wright and Bobby Blue Bland. It’s all mixed up in there. You just never know. I always attribute it to the music we grew up listening to and the radio back in the ‘60s. It’s pretty wide open. It’s hard to put a tag on it.’”
