John Robinson, the Tahoe Zephyr, served notice that he is one of the best around by winning the 800 meters at the California High School Indoor Championships and grabbing silver in the mile .

Before an appreciative crowd in the Savemart Center on the Fresno State campus Feb. 26 night, he won over some of the best returning runners in the country.

Robinson took control of the race on a tight, banked 145 meter track with 2 laps to go and built a 5 meter lead over Raynaldo Noble, a 1:51 runner in 2010. Noble could not close the gap even with a significant surge and Robinson prevailed in 1:58.53, a fast time on a tight, highly banked indoor oval.

Robinson was the only male athlete to win both a gold and silver for the meet making him the success story of the night. He finished second in the eleven plus laps of the mile to Redwood High School senior Justin Vilhauer who had bests of 4:11 in the 1600 and 9:02 in the 3200 a year ago.

Robinson has now begun the Whittell season and his next big test will come outdoors at the Arcadia Invitational on April 9. That meet is considered to be the top meet in the country and will give John the chance to test himself against the very best in the U.S.
