Only one runner was better than Whittell High senior John Robinson in the UNR Twilight meet on Friday night in Sparks.

Robinson finished runner-up to Galena’s Bryan Jordan in the 4-kilometer race at Shadow Mountain Park.

The top-two runners in the boys’ country race dueled for the first two laps before Jordan pulled away on the final lap. Robinson finished with a time of 13 minutes, 51 seconds.

“He says it’s his least favorite course ever, but he didn’t do too bad,” said Whittell coach Lindsay Wines.

The Warriors also performed well as team, finishing fifth overall.

Galena was first and was followed by Reno, Modesto, Spanish Springs and Whittell.

“I was pretty pleased with that,” Wines said of her team’s standing.

Junior Mikey George placed 31st in 16:07 for the Warriors. Zach Welch took 41st in 16:51, Josh Welch 44th in 17:03, Kyle Crawford 48th in 17:06, Tanner Sigel 54th and Travis Hisken 67th.

Two Whittell runners competed in the girls’ junior varsity race. Sammy Rupp placed fourth in 19:37 and Megan Miller came in 26th in 22:11. Whittell’s JV boys were led by Avery Laub, who finished 16th in 18:46. Ben Beck was 36th in 22:01 and Mitchell Rafferty 39th in 24:37.
