The Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club recently culminated a record year with cash donations to 34 local organizations. The club continued its great 42-year tradition of community service with donations totaling $43,500. The Rotary motto is “Service Above Self,” and it feels so good to give back to the wonderful citizens of Lake Tahoe. Members of the organization receiving donations and volunteers from the community joined club members for a festive meeting.

The board of directors selected Court Appointed Special Advocates for the major donation of $15,000. Two club members contributed an additional $1,500 and an anonymous donor matched the entire amount. The money will be used for the new Carson Valley Children’s Center to be constructed in Douglas County.

The Rotary Club also awarded academic scholarships totaling $12,000 to eight George Whittell High School seniors. The recipients are Adam Cronis, Elise Ehrler, Stefanie Hatcher, Jenna Hayes, Kyle Olsen, Chris Pavich, Sara Piccola and Kaitlin Willens. Each student completed a written application and personal statement. A committee of Tahoe Douglas Rotarians then conducted interviews. The winners met the grade-point average guidelines established by the club and excelled in community service and other extracurricular activities.

The Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club would like to thank the entire Lake Tahoe community for your tremendous support at its annual St. Patrick’s Day Wine Tasting and Corned Beef Feed. Your generosity made these donations possible.
