Rotary clubs complete ‘hands-on’ project

Jim Grant / Tahoe Daily Tribune / Gathering in front of the recently remodeled Family Resource Center are members of the South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe Douglas Rotary clubs, Lake Tahoe Unified School District officials, FRC staff and board members, and community members.

The Rotary clubs of South Lake Tahoe and Tahoe-Douglas combined efforts and muscle in August to remodel part of the Family Resource Center at Bijou Community School.

The Family Resource Center provides services to families that include English as a second language, computer instruction, counseling and food and clothing.

Twenty-five club members contributed nearly 200 hours of labor to install walls and storage cabinets Aug. 20-25. The two Rotary clubs each contributed $4,000 and also received a simplified grant of $3,000 from Rotary District 5190 to purchase storage cabinets and other materials for the work.

Jill’s Classic Cabinetry provided the cabinets at cost to assist with this community improvement project, and South Lake Tahoe Rotary club member Dave Huber donated plumbing labor and material.
