Run until your dog’s tired on Sunday

Attention all dogs: The fourth annual Trails and Tails fund-raiser is Sunday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at Spooner Lake State Park.

Hosted by the running group Tahoe Mountain Milers, the event features a scenic 5K run or walk, or a more challenging 10K run around Spooner Lake. People are encouraged to bring their dogs.

Registration is at 9 a.m. The entry fee is $25. Everyone entering the race will be given an embroidered sweatshirt. All dogs participating in the event will receive a new leash.

Tahoe Mountain Milers race director Dr. Staci Baker said there are more than 100 dogs expected.

“Our main beneficiary is Tahoe Wildlife Care,” said Baker, who is a veterinary doctor at Kingsbury Veterinary Hospital. “We’re expecting to raise (around) $3,000.”

Bonanza Produce will supply fruit for the race, and Rude Brothers will provide bagels. Trails and Tails participants will have a chance to win prizes at a post-race raffle and picnic. Two lift tickets for Heavenly Ski Resort and a season pass to Diamond Peak Cross Country & Snowshoe will be given away.

For more information, call Baker at (775) 588-3828.
