Sabac leads Vikings in loss to Fernley
South Tahoe’s girls stayed in pursuit of a complete game on Friday night, losing to Fernley 42-21 in Fernley.
Mel Sabac scored seven points and Kaylinn Horn hit a couple of shots for five points.
“We definitely made some improvements,” said STHS coach Chris Holmes. “When we did our things right we were fine. But we’re still rushing some things at times. We’ll keep hammering away at it and try to keep improving.”
Casey Scheller had 10 points for Fernley.
Fernley (9-2) got its offense in gear early, taking a 15-1 lead in the first quarter and kept the pressure on the Vikings to end a two-game losing streak.
“I felt like we ran our offense really well, and we got off some good shots,” said Fernley coach Ross Wilson.
South Tahoe or Sparks will have the opportunity to taste victory for the first time this season in their league opener on Saturday. The Vikings take an 0-9 record into the 2 p.m. home game, while Sparks is 0-5 overall.
