Sanchez breaks up shutout; JVs beat Miners in nine innings

Bishop Manogue broke open a scoreless tie with an eight-run third frame in a 10-1 Sierra League win against South Tahoe on Friday in Reno.

STHS scored its only run in the sixth when Missy Miller took second base on a passed ball and scored on a double by freshman Brittany Sanchez.

The Vikings’ JV beat Manogue 6-5 Friday when Izze Castillo singled in Sid Loomis from second base with the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Emily Gardner pitched the distance, striking out 12, to earn the victory. Castillo and Loomis had two hits, while Loomis scored three times and Bailey David cross the plate twice.

It was the JV’s first league win.
