Sand bags available for residents

Tracy Franklin
Special to the Tribune

The City of South Lake Tahoe reminds residents that sand bags are available at no cost year-round at the city’s Streets and Snow Removal Yard located at 1160 Rufus Allen Blvd., next to Campground by the Lake.

To pick-up sand bags, proceed through the gate at 1160 Rufus Allen Blvd. and drive to the back of the lot. At the back of the lot is a large sand mound, shovels and bags. Residents fill their own bags and transport back to their own residence. Please leave the shovels so others may use them and try to limit the number of bags to 10 per visit. Access to sand bags is available during normal business hours, Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Reno office advises of a significant storm impacting the region late Wednesday night through Friday consisting of heavy rain changing into heavy snow for elevations between 6,000-7,500 feet.
