School leadership changes at El Dorado County level

Cathy Bean was recently hired as the associate superintendent for El Dorado County. She replaces Wally Newberry who retired after nearly 20 years of service.

Bean was the superintendent of Gold Oak Union School District, which lies outside of Placerville in Pleasant Valley, from 1998 until she took the job as associate superintendent of instructional services and student programs for the El Dorado County Office of Education. She also served as assistant superintendent for Rescue School District and as a principal.

“I am looking forward to working with the county office of education, the staff, the county superintendent and the county board of education,” Bean said. “It will be a challenge following retired Deputy Superintendent Wally Newberry.”

She started earlier this month and lives in Cameron Park.
