Scottsdale group volunteers at Evans Family Garden

A group of teenagers and chaperones from the Bureau of Jewish Education of Greater Phoenix volunteered Thursday, June 28, at the Evans Family Garden.

The group came to assist the Tahoe Resource Conservation District’s efforts and helped garden, mulch and compost, after receiving instruction from TRCD’s Tina Schulz, Marsha Hudson and Jennifer Cressy.

The Scottsdale group originally contacted the City of South Lake Tahoe’s Volunteer Corp. to ask how the community of South Lake Tahoe could benefit from its volunteer efforts, according to a press release from the city of South Lake Tahoe.

The Evans family granted the property, the site of their former home, to the TRCD after the Angora Fire for the development of a garden where the community could learn and enjoy the beauty of their Tahoe native plants and environment. Under the direction of the TRCD, volunteers and donors are responsible for the development and maintenance of this project, according to TRCD’s website.

“The Evans Family Garden is a gift to the community for people to spend time, see which native plants grow best in our arid, dessert, alpine climate and a place to enjoy watching the birds” TRCD volunteer coordinator Tina Schulz stated in the press release.

For more information or to volunteer at the Evans Family Garden, contact Jennifer Cressy at 530-543-1501, ext. 107, or jcressy@tahoercd.org.
